iPad

The everyday iPad, and the best value.

Update expected soon

Apple has updated the iPad about every 18 months, and this one is 19 months old. If you can wait, a new model may be close.

Best for

  • Watching, reading and browsing

A sharp 11″ screen and all-day battery life for everything you consume.

  • Students and note-taking

Works with Apple Pencil (USB‑C) and the Magic Keyboard Folio, at the lowest price.

  • Families and shared use

Affordable enough to pass around, and it runs every app in the App Store.

  • Casual games

The A16 handles most popular games without trouble.

Think twice if…

  • You want Apple Intelligence. It’s the only current iPad that doesn’t support it.
  • You draw seriously. No Apple Pencil Pro and no pressure sensitivity with the USB‑C Pencil.
  • You use external drives a lot. Its USB‑C port runs at USB 2 speeds (480 Mb/s).

Our take

The basic iPad is the one to consider first if you mostly watch, read, browse, take notes and handle email. It has a good screen, a capable chip and the same battery life as the others, at the lowest price.

It is, however, the only current iPad without Apple Intelligence, it only works with the simpler Apple Pencils, and its USB‑C port is slow.
