iPad mini

The small one. Big on reading, games and sketching.

Best for

  • Reading and watching

Light enough to hold in one hand for hours, with the sharpest screen of any iPad (326 ppi).

  • Light gaming

The A17 Pro runs most games well, and the size is comfortable for long sessions.

  • Sketching and notes

Apple Pencil Pro with hover, in a notebook-sized iPad.

  • Travel

Fits in a jacket pocket or the smallest bag.

Think twice if…

  • You want to replace a laptop. There’s no Magic Keyboard, and the small screen makes multitasking awkward.
  • You type a lot. Only Bluetooth keyboards work, and nothing attaches to it like the Magic Keyboard does.

Our take

The iPad mini is by far the most portable iPad, at under 300 grams. It’s great for reading, watching, games and quick sketches with Apple Pencil Pro, and it runs Apple Intelligence.

As a main computer it’s a stretch: Apple doesn’t make a keyboard for it, and the 8.3-inch screen is cramped for multitasking. As a second device next to a bigger iPad or a Mac, it’s lovely.
